the arrival of olive adelaide

at my 36 week appt we found that my blood pressure was suddenly high. i went back the following monday to check again and it was high. i went back again on wednesday, may 6 and it was STILL high. much to my surprise, once they saw that they told me i had gestational hypertension and they wanted me in the hospital for 24 hour monitoring. if my blood pressure went down i could go home. if it didn't they would possibly take the baby. daniel was in finals week but left his class and came to be with me.

thursday morning, may 7, they came and got me early in the morning for an ultrasound. at this point i was 37 weeks and she was still breech. they found that olive in 4 weeks had lost from 5lb 12oz to 5lb 6oz. they thought perhaps i was preeclamptic. my doctor really didnt like this and said that friday she was going to take her. she didnt know what time but she said "enjoy your last day being pregnant". my mom and dad drove in and arrived thursday evening.

i told daniel to go home and get some sleep so one of us would be rested for the big day. mom stayed at the hospital with me. we had no idea what time they would schedule the c-section for the next day. however, God and olive knew when she was going to arrive. a little after midnight thursday night my water broke and labor actively ensued. i called daniel and he began the trip into lexington. the nurses couldnt reach our doctor so the on-call doctor came and discussed with me through the contractions that it was time, they needed to act fast. at 1:49 AM Friday May 8 Olive Adelaide was lifted over the curtain and shown to daniel and i. we could not believe our eyes.

beth flew in friday evening and fell in love with olive just like the rest of us.

i was so glad mom, dad, and beth were able to come. they were a big help and offered a lot of love and support.

she makes so many amazing facial expressions that keep us in stitches. here is one of the first.

the hospital stay was somewhat rough as i recovered and seemed almost surreal as time flew by. but nothing made our day light up like having our little bird rolled in to be with us.

proud papa.

fleeting glimpse in the early days of eye-open time.

with the c-section i was encouraged to get up and take mini-walks in the hall.
here we are as a family taking our little walk.

i dont think anyone could tell me that angels didnt bring her here from heaven.
look how peaceful and beautiful she is.
