lexarts show

daniel had yet another show that he performed amazingly at. he was invited to have a one-man show at a gallery run by the lexington art league. we had a ton of people show up from lexington and georgetown at the opening. he received great aclaim, as usual. we also found out at the opening that there was a review in the lexington herald-leader. we bought one on the way home. The article praised him and his work- very positive. God is really blessing him here with his artwork. and i couldn't be more proud.

smurfette and no. 2

daniel and i were supposed to dress up at work for halloween. his work had an art theme and we were going to have trick or treaters at my work. i challenged daniel to a pencil costume. yeah, its simple but i knew daniel would make it brilliant, as he did. i decided to be smurfette, later realizing that today's kids dont know who she is. but hey, i had fun.

short again

my hair has grown out since summer time, so here i go again. little shorter this time...unexpected but refreshing.

pass the loop through the lace

daniel has just finished his piece for the outdoor sculpture exhibit here on campus. he made a see-saw for adults. in each chair are old library books. in one chair in the front is a metal mouth, in the other is a metal ear. its to represent the relaton between student and teacher. its..umm...awesome. he has already had a lot of people on them, including the curator from the speed gallery in louisville. his response was "i havent done this in 38 years!". it was great. this piece will be up on campus for 2 years. another show down, another to go. daniel has a lot on his plate right now. prayers would be appreciated.

fall festival with the thomas's

to celebrate the arrival of fall daniel, myself, missy, brandon and the lovely sonya visited the bo-water farm in town for a fall festival. we went on a hay ride, pet and fed some farm animals, watched baby ducks go down a slide, rode giant hobby horses, the list goes on and on. we had so much fun and sonya had plenty of places to climb!

night at the ballet

so daniel was able to get two tickets to go to the lexington opera house to see the lexington ballet co perform. it was so great- my favorite was a modern dance piece on a stark red back ground performed to an al green song. it was beautiful. not bad for a friday night date, huh?

mouthpiece

for those who couldnt be there....here are just a few of the pics from daniels big show in september. he did such an amazing job with this show. i was so very proud. click to see the images larger.

I must Say

So i must say that I am so proud of my wife. She (as everyone who reads this knows) is the most special and precious person in my life. She also just happens to be the most breathtakingly beautiful woman that God had made. I am here in Japan and she is far far away from me and I miss her greatly, she is very strong and supportive, who else would let their husband travel 7 thousand miles to a place he has never been with no phone just to make a wooden puppet.

Holly you are amazing in all ways of the word. You have been and continue to be a source of hope and energy in my corner. I love you like no other.

where in the world is daniel-san-diego?

well, daniel arrived safely in japan this morning. yes japan. he has been invited to come to a 10 day international japanese woodworking workshop, all expenses paid- except his ticket to get there. an amazing opportunity we could not pass up. so off he went. he had a 6 hour layover in detroit on the way there and he will have a 10 hour layover on the way back. but of course, his visit will be worth the wait. i cant wait to see what he makes and hear about what he experiences when he gets back. it will be a journey he will never forget. pray for his safety!

time for a change

it is time for a change. time to get this long hair off of me.

its nice to feel like myself again. long hair is definately not me.

daniel and i have outlawed ponytails.

anyone up for golf

have i told you about my golf game? you see i am excellent at that sport. step 1- knock a golf ball under any low lying inanimate object.

step 2- freak out trying to get it yourself, trying to make yourself boneless unsuccessfully. (do not be distracted by any golf balls not in play).

step 3- cry little pitiful cries persistently all night until mom or dad give in and get it for you.

step 4- knock a golf ball under any low lying inanimate object.
man, i'm awesome at golf.

we found a church

after much searching we have found a church home. its called cedar grove baptist and we have really enjoyed the teaching, worship, and family there. we just became members and are looking forward to getting involved. we have done some really fun things through the church including arkfest, a christian rock festival, a pig roast, paintball, etc. there are some really great people there.
this shirt is from one of the bands from arkfest- knapsack heroes.

memorial day

memorial day was lots of fun. missy and brandon had us over for a cookout. mr and mrs thompson and robyn were there as well. the sun was shining, the food was yummy, and miss sonya was enjoying her pool.
after eating we got into a fierce game of bocce ball with the thompsons. it was awesome. lots of fun was had by all.

generation next

daniel was recently invited to have his work in generation next, a show put on by the lexington art league to highlight central kentucky's up-and-coming artists. he was able to put 5 pieces in, including chairs, woodcuts, etc, which i think nicely showcased his sculpture.

a local tv station contacted him to do an interview about his work and the show. which of course he accepted. his next endeavor is his major show in september which will be a major undertaking. prayers please.

fun with the thomas's

its been so much fun having missy and brandon and miss sonya in kentucky. it has been amazing seeing sonya grow and observing missy and brandon doing the parenthood thing. and its just been cool having them around in general.

we met them at the park one beautiful day for a picnic. daniel (or "guy" as sonya calls him) showed sonya how to jump on the tires. a very fun occasion for guy.
